Executive Summary

Terry Newman is a business savvy Leadership and Team Coach.
After a long career in the financial industry, as a leader at entrepreneurial and global financial organizations, Terry became a coach to help technical leaders and teams enhance the “human” (emotional intelligence/EQ) side of leadership, which she felt was lacking. Since leadership is a team sport, Terry’s work also focuses on leadership team coaching and facilitation to help teams build trust, increase self/team awareness, enhance communication,  and gain alignment around their context, mission, key priorities, and operating norms. Through solutions focused coaching, assessments, team building, and facilitation, she helps leaders and teams achieve greater effectiveness, increase self & team awareness, build emotional intelligence, enhance communication, test new behaviors, and create practical action plans. Terry leverages her business acumen and leadership experience in her work. She has coached more than 1,000 professionals from over 30 countries on 360 feedback, individual effectiveness, leadership and team development, career management, change management, conflict resolution, mindfulness in the workplace and effective communication.

Terry coaches Columbia Business School and Executive MBA students as part of a Leadership Lab class and has been a coach and facilitator for several executive leadership programs including through Cornell University, Columbia University and Yale School of Management Executive Education. Additionally, she designs and facilitates interactive workshops and retreats to enhance leadership and team effectiveness, communication and decision making. Her clients include senior executives and leadership teams from Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, entrepreneurial private companies, government agencies, associations, and multi-lateral organizations such as The World Bank. She has worked with global leaders and distributed teams across a range of sectors and industries including asset management, finance, healthcare, government, law, media, pharmaceuticals, public relations, technology, and utilities.

Industry Experience Terry spent over 25 years in the financial industry including as a Managing Director at Credit Suisse, Vice President at Bankers Trust and as an account executive at Instinet, an early fintech company. During her business career, she successfully built teams, raised assets, improved organizational operations, and client service.

Affiliations

Terry served on the Board of Trustees for Barnard College of Columbia University, is a former President of the Alumnae Association of Barnard College and was a founding member of the Leadership Council for Barnard’s Athena Center for Leadership Studies. Terry currently serves on Girls Inc. Advisory Board NYC.

Education and Certifications

She graduated cum laude from Barnard College, Columbia University, and obtained a graduate level coaching certification from Columbia. She has spoken on Bold
TV and conferences on the benefits of executive and team coaching. Terry is certified in a suite of assessments including Birkman, MBTI, Strong, TKI, NBI, Hogan, Clark Wilson Group 360, Korn Ferry ESCI 360, Leadership Assessment of Personality (LMAP) 360. Terry is trained in mindfulness practices including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction used to help clients and teams manage stress, regulate emotions, and enhance interpersonal relationships and communication.
